Meet the Maker

Hello and welcome,

I’m Dané, the heart and soul behind Décor Gems. The dreamer, maker, designer… All the things that make up this one woman small business. I say that loosely because, in reality, my husband is the backbone of everything I do, and my family (without a doubt) my biggest supporter.

I was born into a creative family of photographers and although everyone thought I would follow in their footsteps, my love for art and creating took me on a different route.

I studied Jewellery Manufature and Design at PE College but only really started learning the characteristics of metal when I started working in the trade. I loved learning new techniques and trying out new things. After spending 14 and a half years in a retail shop I decided to go on my own, although Decor Gems was already born in 2012, it only became a full time commitment in December 2021.

When I sit at the bench creating, that’s where I’m the happiest, be it a custom order or an idea drown out on paper being made into metal and stone. The process of creating a wearable piece of art truly is what brings me back to my bench every day.

This is a slow craft, I create each piece with intention and care for you to wear for years to come. They are not mass produced and I often only make one of a design making it even so more unique.

I’m still learning new techniques as I go along and I have my eye set on some I want to explore.

I do believe that jewellery is a reflection of you and your style and we all have a special relationship with our jewellery, when we find that special ring or earrings that speak to us, it enables us to show the world a little bit of who we are. I hope to bring you those pieces.

And I hope every piece that leaves my hands travels with you on your journey. Wear it as you climb mountains, raise a family and live life to the fullest.
